Bella Vista, septiembre de 2025.- Con el propósito de reforzar la prevención y respuesta frente a los incendios forestales, se desarrolló en Bella Vista un taller dirigido a brigadas voluntarias del Parque Departamental y Área Natural de Manejo Integrado Iténez (PD ANMI Iténez).

El encuentro tuvo como objetivo que los participantes conozcan a detalle el Plan Integral de Manejo de Fuegos y el Plan de Capacitación para la formación en combate de incendios forestales en el área protegida, además de fortalecer las capacidades de bomberos voluntarios de los municipios de Magdalena y Baures en acciones de prevención y manejo del fuego.

La capacitación estuvo a cargo de Arturo Rivera, especialista en Gestión de Riesgos y Gobernanza Climática y exbombero voluntario. Rivera estuvo acompañado por Mirna Echave, miembro de Bomberos Unidos sin Frontera.

Los participantes fueron integrantes de las brigadas voluntarias que desde hace dos años se vienen formando en el PD ANMI Iténez. Durante el curso, se abordaron tanto aspectos teóricos como prácticos relacionados con la activación de respuestas, coordinación ante emergencias, uso de equipos, sistemas de alerta temprana, elaboración de informes y administración de brigadas de apoyo. También se profundizó en los procedimientos para la declaración de emergencias y desastres, asegurando que las brigadas estén preparadas para actuar de manera efectiva y organizada.

Un aspecto central del taller fue el enfoque en poblaciones en situación de vulnerabilidad. En este marco, se capacitó también a los cuidadores de personas con discapacidad, en coordinación con las Unidades Municipales de Atención a Personas con Discapacidad de Magdalena y Baures. Esta acción busca garantizar que, en caso de emergencia, se pueda brindar una respuesta rápida y adecuada, asegurando la protección de quienes se encuentran en mayor riesgo.

“Este tipo de talleres son fundamentales para fortalecer la capacidad de respuesta local frente a los incendios forestales. Al trabajar de manera coordinada con brigadas voluntarias y actores municipales, se generan redes de apoyo que no solo protegen los ecosistemas, sino también a las poblaciones más vulnerables”, destacó Marcela Añez, Coordinadora de Infraestructura, Suelo y Agua de WWF-Bolivia.

Asimismo, se promovió la colaboración interinstitucional, resaltando la importancia de compartir información y coordinar actividades con actores locales, gobiernos municipales y otras instituciones, como una estrategia clave para fortalecer la prevención, el monitoreo y la respuesta frente a incendios forestales en la región.

Estas acciones se realizan en el marco del Proyecto Resiliencia para la gente y la biodiversidad, con el apoyo de WWF Finlandia.

Bella Vista, September 2025.- With the aim of strengthening prevention and response to forest fires, a workshop was held in Bella Vista for volunteer brigades from the Iténez Departmental Park and Integrated Management Natural Area (PD ANMI Iténez).

The meeting aimed to provide participants with detailed information on the Comprehensive Fire Management Plan and the Training Plan for forest firefighting in the protected area, as well as to strengthen the capacities of volunteer firefighters in the municipalities of Magdalena and Baures in fire prevention and management actions.

The training was led by Arturo Rivera, a specialist in Risk Management and Climate Governance and a former volunteer firefighter. Rivera was accompanied by Mirna Echave, a member of Bomberos Unidos sin Frontera (Firefighters Without Borders).

The participants were members of the volunteer brigades that have been training at PD ANMI Iténez for the past two years. During the course, both theoretical and practical aspects related to response activation, emergency coordination, equipment use, early warning systems, report writing, and support brigade management were addressed. The procedures for declaring emergencies and disasters were also explored in depth, ensuring that the brigades are prepared to act effectively and in an organized manner.

A central aspect of the workshop was its focus on vulnerable populations. Within this framework, caregivers for people with disabilities were also trained, in coordination with the Municipal Units for the Care of Persons with Disabilities in Magdalena and Baures. This action seeks to ensure that, in the event of an emergency, a rapid and adequate response can be provided, ensuring the protection of those most at risk.

“These types of workshops are essential for strengthening local response capacity to forest fires. By working in coordination with volunteer brigades and municipal actors, support networks are created that not only protect ecosystems, but also the most vulnerable populations,” said Marcela Añez, Infrastructure, Land, and Water Coordinator at WWF-Bolivia.

Inter-institutional collaboration was also promoted, highlighting the importance of sharing information and coordinating activities with local actors, municipal governments, and other institutions as a key strategy for strengthening prevention, monitoring, and response to forest fires in the region.
